The Mount Union Area High School Drama Club is in the process of preparing for their yearly fall plays. Drama Club advisor Nancy Corson and her students will be performing three different shows this year at the Mount Union Area High School auditorium on November 13 at 6:00 p.m. The three shows in the works are entitled “Text,” “Dad Joke Intervention,” and “Burglars, Bunglers, and Thieves.”
Students will have a total of ten practices over a five week span to prepare for their performances. Rehearsals have been shorter than they were in past years due to the student actors also being involved in other clubs such as Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, and Art Club.
Each year, Drama Club members are given the chance to select their plays from Corson’s library of shows. Students selected these shows from Corson’s collection of shows that she has gathered from years of being the Drama Club advisor. In rare cases, student select shows done in previous years, but usually students select different plays which has led to a large variety of shows being performed over the years.
Tarah Arnold, a student acting in “Text,” described the play as being “about a group of four girls getting into a big fight. Nobody in this story is exactly the hero, but it is full of drama, heartbreak, and tension.”
Talia Whitsel, who will be performing in “Dad Joke Intervention,” said that “the show follows a dad who has a problem with saying dad jokes on a constant basis which leads to the family holding a big intervention which is quite funny.”
Olivia Wallace, a student acting in “Burglars, Bunglers, and Thieves” commented on what the show is about stating: “It is basically like a 1990’s slapstick humor.”
The Mount Union Drama Club has been putting on fall plays for years in what has turned into a tradition for the club. This year there will be three shows, but in past years, the number of plays has ranged from two to four shows per day.
Corson stated that “the main purpose of class plays is to give kids a chance to get experience. I think it’s more beneficial when kids learn from other kids.”
Last year, the Mount Union Drama Club performed two plays. That number has increased to three plays this year due to increased student interest and involvement.
Members are looking forward to sharing their hard work and efforts with the community and proving entertainment to their audiences.
